My village in France

ARTIST STATEMENT

Born on a farm in France, on the former battlefields of the Somme, I have been drawn to the concept of destruction since childhood. Running through the fields, hiding in the woods, and playing with war shells unearthed from the daily activity of farming, I continued to this day to integrate the idea of play and danger in my art practice. Whether working in photography or sculpture, my work investigates the idea of fragmentation across time.

The more recent photographic work exemplifies these ideas by monumentalizing damaged and burnt buildings falling apart, revealing the impermanence of the human condition.

Earlier series evoke bodily fragmentation through partially erased, intimate family scenes.

My sculptural and installation work, not unlike my photographic practice, explore the ideas of strength, fragility and impermanence. Using materials such as concrete, ice, animal pelts, and live spiders, these pieces engage the senses and tap into an elemental, untamed, part of ourselves — revealing our wildness.
